Heavy Industry and Mining

Heavy industry and mining creates demands for many of the techniques within the scope Menard Bachy's ground engineering capability, whether they be water control and containment, high capacity foundations, deep excavations or ground improvement.

In the discipline of sanitation engineering, Menard Bachy maintains an active participation: including retention and storage facilities for stormwater runoff, polluted water and flood water and for water supply, underground and ground-level reservoirs, lift pump stations and wastewater treatment stations.

The mining industry consistently requires the application of Menard Bachy's techniques, from diaphragm walls and anchors for retaining structures and shaft construction, to ground improvement at coastal terminals and jet grouting for stabilisation poor ground strata at depth.

When confronted with weak compressible soils, typically under areas designated for stockpiling, identifying the most cost effective ground treatment solution, one which guarantees continuous and safe long term performance is facilitated by the comprehensive range of ground improvement techniques available to Menard Bachy's engineers.

Menard Bachy's experience and expertise in deep foundation engineering ensures that the geotechnical aspects specific to each project can be addressed effectively and efficiently, using our range of techniques: commonly, diaphragm walls, slurry cut-off barriers, soil improvement, barrette multiform piles, ground anchors, piling, ground freezing and many others.

The essential challenges to be addressed are summarised as being:

  • support of heavy and uniform loads (water, oil, gas storage) and isolated loads (industrial, infrastructure, pipe-racks)
  • reduction of total and differential settlements to acceptable limits
